Certified CPD seminars: education as the foundation of safety systems

Competence that determines effectiveness

Growing threats mean that safety systems must be considered much earlier than the installation stage. Technology offers increasing capabilities, but it is still people — their knowledge, experience and design competence — who determine system effectiveness.

For this reason, education is becoming one of the key elements of safety systems. Even the most advanced technical solutions will not perform effectively if those responsible for design, integration and installation do not fully understand their functions and limitations. In practice, this requires continuous competence development across the entire responsibility chain — from designers and consultants to installers.

Education is not an add‑on, but an integral part of international market strategy. This is particularly evident in the UK, where Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has long been an essential element of engineering and design practice. Entering the CPD area was therefore a natural step driven by real market needs.
The CPD programme by Ambient System currently consists of three courses developed in response to current challenges related to voice alarm and public address systems.
The first course provides a general overview of the technology and its application in different types of facilities, including high‑rise buildings and retail spaces. It serves as a foundation for further development in the field of Voice Alarm systems.
The second course focuses on a factor that ultimately determines the effectiveness of voice communication — intelligibility. It addresses acoustic conditions, ambient noise and design decisions affecting message perception, as well as modern technologies and smartVES algorithms supporting communication management.
The third and most recent course responds to growing challenges related to safety management in high‑risk facilities. It focuses on communication requirements arising from Martyn’s Law and the role of audio systems in evacuation and lockdown scenarios. Regulatory aspects and practical system configuration issues are also discussed.
The CPD programme demonstrates that in safety systems, technology and education are inseparable, and that effective safety management begins with informed decisions and professional competence.
